Quality of life per app
Remote control for the mylife YpsoPump
With the vision of making self-treatment a matter of course, the Swiss company Ypsomed Holding AG successfully develops injection and infusion systems for the international market. What began more than 30 years ago in Burgdorf (Switzerland) with the development of the first innovative insulin pump continues to be an important focus of Ypsomed’s expertise today.
Creating quality of life is the goal of Ypsomed’s mylife Diabetescare brand. The products enable diabetics to have an everyday life in which they can easily and intuitively determine their own insulin supply. With the mylife YpsoPump insulin pump system, Ypsomed is making a decisive contribution to this. The mylife YpsoPump benefits above all from the many years of experience of the leading specialist in the development and manufacture of injection and infusion systems.
The associated mylife app already enables data exchange between users of the mylife YpsoPump and medical professionals. But the manufacturer was still missing something as a service offer: an app that makes the insulin pump easy and convenient to control remotely. A benefit for diabetics that makes even more self-determination and discretion possible.
,,Nowadays, medical products such as an insulin pump simply include apps and cloud-based services. That is a customer wish and a must-have – quite clearly.”
Ypsomed expects this free app to improve the positioning of the insulin pump on the market.
The specialists for injection and infusion systems therefore searched for a service provider through a call for tenders, who could initiate a new development together with the internal IT department. They found what they were looking for with the Darmstadt-based experts for the development of medical software solutions.
As the Medical Software Business Unit of the BAYOONET Group, Mitdenker:innen can look back on almost ten years of project experience in the regulated medical and pharmaceutical environment. The joint project with Ypsomed AG also brought new insights. Managing the international team of 30 people at different locations was only one of the challenges of the project. But: “We formed different SCRUM teams to be able to ensure the cooperation of the constantly growing team,” explains Bruno Anselmi. He also found the exchange between Switzerland and Darmstadt positive. “It was no problem for the English-speaking team.”
As in any project, initial plans had to be rethought. “At the beginning, we had the idea of a closely coupled collaboration between verification and implementation – we had to adapt that in the course of the project,” says Bruno Anselmi. But the changeover worked without a hitch.
What impression did Bruno Anselmi gain during his collaboration with BAYOOMED?
“Qualitatively, the BAYOOMED employees are very well trained. Their understanding of processes and software development in the field of medical devices is also optimal.”
A suitable addition to the know-how of the experts at Ypsomed AG, which strengthened the joint project.
“When it comes to medical devices, especially of course software development in this field, I would definitely recommend BAYOOMED.”
He was also convinced by the knowledge of applicable standards and legal requirements, which is particularly crucial for regulated medical products. These reasons ultimately led to the cooperation between Ypsomed AG and BAYOOMED.
“Expertise and domain know-how are there. And the quality is also right,” says Bruno Anselmi. “I’m sure we’ll build a great product together,” he adds.
