Over the past six years, we have worked together with BIG direkt gesund on a pioneering project that was not only technically challenging, but also shaped and developed us as a team in the long term – the new and further development of the service app for policyholders. This long-term collaboration was characterized by professionalism, structure and mutual trust – a prime example of modern, agile project work in the digital healthcare sector.

During the project, we were able to continuously expand our technical skills and take them to a new level. Working closely with C# and familiarizing ourselves with Kotlin and Swift opened up a wide range of new development perspectives for our team. The integration of complex technical components such as the interface development between app and webviews, tracking, the integration of an API for document scanning and the complete release process of mobile apps was particularly challenging and exciting at the same time.

A central element of the project was the consistent implementation of accessibility requirements. Together, we developed functions such as dynamic text enlargement, a consistent dark mode, landscape support and a dynamic tile layout using our own DynamicTileGrid. Particular care went into testing each individual app component for compatibility with TalkBack and VoiceOver – a significant contribution to inclusive digitalization, which has already been tested and approved by people with accessibility requirements.

In cooperation with our sister company UID GmbH, the project also enabled us to expand our expertise in the area of user interface and experience design. Topics such as pagination, modular card components (“cards”) and the targeted use of tools such as Figma contributed to the creation of high-quality and user-centered solutions. Our daily work was always based on agile methods: daily dailies with the customer, weekly syncs with third-party companies and regular sprint reviews ensured transparency and clarity at all levels. Thanks to the use of modern tools such as Jira for project management, tooling for automated error tracking and AI-supported support from tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude, we were able to deliver efficiently and to a high standard even when faced with more complex challenges. The close cooperation with a dedicated QA team was a decisive success factor for the consistently high quality of the developed software.

The collaboration with BIG direkt gesund was not just a project for us – it was a milestone. It allowed us to grow professionally, personally and organizationally and we will remember it as a positive example of agile software development in practice.
